Core Curriculums

This document outlines the core instructional curriculums used at P.S. 102 across Early Childhood, Literacy, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. It provides descriptions of each program, the grade levels served, instructional time allocations, and the overarching goals of each curriculum.

The Early Childhood section describes the Creative Curriculum for 3K and Pre-K, a research-based, play-centered program that integrates language, literacy, and mathematics through hands-on exploration.

The Literacy section lists three structured, evidence-based programs used from Grades 3K–5:

  • Heggerty (10 minutes daily), focused on phonological awareness.
  • FUNdations (30 minutes daily), a phonics program supporting reading and spelling.
  • HMH Into Reading (90 minutes daily), a comprehensive curriculum designed to build strong reading, writing, and communication skills.

The Mathematics section highlights:

  • Number Talks (10 minutes daily), a routine that strengthens mental math and conceptual reasoning.
  • Envision 2020 (40–70 minutes daily), a problem-based and visual learning curriculum for Grades K–5 that deepens conceptual understanding.

The Science section describes Amplify Science (45 minutes, twice weekly), which combines hands-on investigations with literacy-based and digital tasks to help students engage in authentic scientific practices.

The Social Studies section describes Passport (45 minutes, twice weekly), a curriculum that teaches history, civics, geography, economics, and citizenship through thematic and content-rich instruction.
